The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate Baseball League was founded in 1989 for the purpose of promoting amateur baseball. The intent of the league is to provide student athletes the opportunity to improve their baseball skills in a competitive sumer baseball league made up of college baseball players. To be eligible for participation in the league, a student athlete must have NCAA eligibility remaining. The 2010 season will feature 11 teams from Ohio. The league is sanctioned by the National Alliance of College Summer Baseball (NACSB). There are currently eight sanctioned college leagues in the country for 2010 and all teams must abide by NCAA rules. Each team in the league for 2010 will play a 40-game schedule using wooden bats. Following the regular season, a post-season tournament will be held to determine a league champion. Since the inception of the Great Lakes League, 67 Alumni have played in the Major Leagues. The Great Lakes League is one of the top rated summer leagues in the country. The great competition, the outstanding players and coaches, and the excellent playing facilities have made the Great Lakes League an attractive summer destination for America's best college baseball players. The teams that make up the Great Lakes League for 2010 are: Cincinnati Steam, Delaware Cows, Grand Lake Mariners, Hamilton Joes, Lake Erie Monarchs, Lexington Hustlers, Licking County Settlers, Lima Locos, Southern Ohio Copperheads, Stark County Terriers, and Xenia Scouts.
