NORTH CANTON, Ohio— The Stark County Terriers were able to seal the season sweep against the Lexington Hustlers Sunday afternoon, winning both games of their double header by scores of 2-1 and 5-3. The two wins move the Terriers to 14-10 on the season as they head into the all-star break. In the first game, the Terriers would give up their only run to the Hustlers in the third inning when they were able to string together three straight singles. The Terriers would be held hitless until the seventh inning. With the Terriers down to their final two outs of the game, Jason Bagoly (Kent State University/ Austintown, OH) would break Stark County’s hitless streak with a single through the left side of the infield. The following batter, Grant McCoury (Elon University/ Canton, OH), would come up to bat and hit a walk off two run homerun over the left center field fence, giving the Terriers the 2-1 win. Starting pitcher for the Terriers was RHP Steve Weber (Eastern Michigan University/ North Royalton, OH). Weber pitched five solid innings, giving up only one run, off six hits, while striking out four batters. Earning the win and improving his record to 4-1 for Stark County was RHP Justin Gill (Kent State University/ Canton, OH). Gill pitched two scoreless innings, while only allowing one hit, and striking out three batters. In the second game, the Terriers jumped ahead in the first inning when Josh Haley (UNC @ Pembrook/ Jackson Springs, NC) scored on a sacrifice fly ball to give the Terriers an early 1-0 lead. The Hustlers would get a run of their own in the second inning, before the Terriers were able to add three runs in the bottom of the third. First baseman Grant McCoury would hit his second home run of the day, this one a solo shot to left field, to start the scoring off in the inning. An RBI single by Ryan Cypret (Ohio State University/ Powell, OH) later in the inning would bring in the next run, before Alex Caghan (University of Rochester/ North Canton, OH) would double to bring Cypret home. At the end of the inning, Stark County would lead 4-1. The Terriers would add onto their lead in the fourth when Chris Norton (Marshall University/ Tampa FL) would hit an RBI infield single to extend the score to 5-1. Lexington would tack on a run in the sixth before things got very interesting. After scoring a run off three straight singles in the eighth inning, LHP Scott Foster (University of Akron/ Green, OH) came in for relief with runners at first and third and no outs. Foster proceeded to strike out the next three batters to end the Hustlers threat. Foster would set down the first three batters in order to close out the ninth inning and earn his first save of the year. Starting pitcher and earning the win for Stark County was LHP Andrew MacDonald (UNC @ Pembrook/ Pinebluff, NC). MacDonald threw five and two-third innings, while allowing only one earned run and five hits. MacDonald was in control the whole day as he struck out seven Lexington batters while allowing only two walks. Leading hitters for the Terriers in game two were Josh Haley (2-4, R, 2B, SB), Grant McCoury (2-5, HR, RBI, R), and Chris Norton (2-3, RBI, R, 2B). The Terriers will now take a six day all-star break. They will next take the field on July 17 when they travel to Celina, Ohio to take on the Grand Lake Mariners in a Saturday double header. First pitch is scheduled for 3PM.
