Canton, Ohio- The Canton Terriers took on the Allegheny Athletics Tuesday afternoon and split a doubleheader. Game one was delayed due to rain but the Terriers were quick at getting the field ready to play both games before dusk. The Terriers lost game one 6-4 and won in game two 6-2 but only getting to the top of the 6th because of nightfall. Game One- The Terriers could only muster four runs in game one to suffer a loss 6-4. The Terriers started the game off strong when third batter Tyler Jones (Mansfield, Ohio/Walsh University) hit a double to left field scoring Evan Nicholson (North Canton, Ohio/Denison University) who previously singled to get on base. The Terriers wouldn’t score again until the 5th and twice more in the 6th totaling their four runs. Pitching in game one for the Terriers were Tyler Asbury (Louisville, Ohio/Vernon College), Joe Elmerick (Louisville, Ohio/Fairmount State College), and Cory Johnston (Medina, Ohio/Indian River State College) to finish game one. Game Two- Game two went slightly different for the Canton Terriers as they scored two runs in the first and three more in the 2nd making the score 5-0. It was then in the 3rd when shortstop RJ Vukovich (North Canton, Ohio/Fairmont State College) tore the seams off of the ball as he rocked out his first homerun on the year over left center to pad the final score 6-2. Scoring for the Terriers were Kyler King (Uniontown, Ohio/Cedarville College) with a single, a stolen base and a run; Evan Nicholson (North Canton, Ohio/ Denison University) and Dan Adler (Mogadore, Ohio/Concordia University-Texas) both with two runs; and RJ Vukovich (North Canton, Ohio/Fairmont State College) with a homerun. Pitching in for the Terriers in game two were Josh Graham (Carrollton, Ohio/Mercyhurst College) and Tyler Nicholson (North Canton, Ohio/Denison University) with five batters and three strikeouts in his first pitching appearance for the Terriers. The now 14-12 Canton Terriers will be at home again this Saturday to take on the Ohio Orioles in a doubleheader starting at 1pm.
