NORTH CANTON, Ohio— The Stark County Terriers split their double header against the Cincinnati Steam on Saturday afternoon, dropping the first game 4-3 before taking the second 10-5. The split puts the Terriers record at 17-14 on the year. The Steam would get on the board first in game one, taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Stark County would respond in the bottom half of that inning by scoring a few of their own. The Terriers would score their first run courtesy of an error by the third baseman, after loading the bases thanks to singles by Zach Leonard (Eastern Michigan University/ Canton, OH), and Mark Lapikas (University of Toledo/ Youngstown, OH), along with a walk by Jason Bagoly (Kent State University/ Austintown, OH). Right fielder Dominic Spadafora (Wabash Community College/ Fort Wayne, IN) would then double down the right field line to score Lapikas and Bagoly. Cincinnati would score again in the third inning to permanently take a 4-3 lead. Starting pitcher and earning the loss for the Terriers was RHP Cody Apthorpe (Bowling Green State University/ Windham, OH). Apthorpe threw six innings, allowing four runs, off seven hits, while striking out seven batters. Leading the hitting for Stark County in game one was Dominic Spadafora (2-3, 2RBI, 2B). In game two, Cincinnati would again score in the first inning, this time putting up two runs to start the game. Stark County would respond with a run of their own in the fourth inning, by way of a Jason Leblebijian (Bradley University/ Arlington Heights, IL) RBI single. They would continue the scoring in the fifth inning, when Jason Bagoly took a fastball over the left field fence for a two run home run to give the Terriers a 3-2 lead. The Steam would tie the ballgame back up in the sixth inning when they were able to get one run across. The Terriers would respond in the bottom half of the inning. Jason Leblebijian would once again come up big and hit an RBI double to left field, scoring Spadafora. In the seventh inning, Jason Bagoly would come up clutch again by hitting a double to deep right center field, driving in two runs. After Grant McCoury (Elon University/ Canton, OH) drew a walk, Dominic Spadafora would hit a rocket to left field for a three run home run. Alex Caghan (University of Rochester/ North Canton, OH) would later score by way of a throwing error to give the Terriers a 10-3 lead and round out the scoring in the inning. Cincinnati would continue to fight, scoring two runs in the eighth inning to make the score 10-5. Starting pitcher and earning the win for the Terriers in game two was RHP Steve Weber (Eastern Michigan University/ North Royalton, OH). Weber pitched six innings, allowing three runs, off five hits, while striking out six batters. Leading hitters for Stark County were Jason Leblebijian (3-4, 2RBI, 2B), Jason Bagoly (2-4, HR, 4RBI, 2R, 2B), Dominic Spadafora (2-3, HR, 3RBI, R), and Kenny Socorro (2-3, R). The Terriers will next take the field on Sunday against the Hamilton Joes. The contest will be a double header played at Walsh University Field in North Canton, Ohio. First pitch is scheduled for 3PM.
