XENIA, Ohio— The Stark County Terriers just did not have what it took to win on Tuesday, getting swept in their double header by the Xenia Scouts. The two losses put the Terriers below .500 for the first time since June 15. The Terriers must improve quickly to remain in the playoff hunt as they are in the last week of the season. The two losses, both by scores of 5-1, put the Terriers at 17-18 on the season. The Scouts would score first in game one, putting up two runs in the second inning. The Terriers would cut the deficit in half in the third inning after Kenny Socorro (Marshall University/ Miami, FL) would score the only run of the game courtesy of a sacrifice fly. Xenia would score two more runs in the bottom half of the third, along with a run in the fourth to permanently take a 5-1 lead. Starting pitcher and earning the loss in game one for the Terriers was RHP Justin Gill (Kent State University/ Canton, OH). Gill pitched three and one-third innings, allowing five runs (4ER), off five hits, while striking out six batters. Leading the hitting in game one for Stark County was shortstop Jason Leblebijian (2-3). In game two, Stark County would score their only run in the second inning. Dominic Spadafora (Wabash Community College/ Fort Wayne, IN) would start the inning off with a ground-rule double to left field. A single to right field by Ryan Cypret (Ohio State University/ Powell, OH) would move Spadafora to third base, before being brought home on a ground ball. The Scouts would score a run of their own in the bottom of the second to tie the game, before scoring three runs in the fourth inning and a run in the sixth to permanently take a 5-1 lead. Starting pitcher and earning the loss for the Terriers in game two was RHP Tim Lynn (University of Dayton/ Wadsworth, OH). Lynn pitched three and two-third innings, allowing four runs (3ER), off five hits. Leading hitters in game two were Alex Caghan (2-5, 2B, SB), and Mark Lapikas (2-3, 2B). The Terriers will next take on the Southern Ohio Copperheads on Thursday. The game will be played at Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio. First pitch is scheduled for 5PM.
