North Canton, Ohio – The Stark County Terriers losing streak extends to three games as the Terriers lose to the Cincinnati Steam by a final score of 11-3 in game one of Saturday's Family Day doubleheader. The Terriers offense has had trouble during the month of July, but broke a seventeen inning scoreless streak by scoring two runs in the fourth inning. But even with Terriers' bats showing signs of life, the Terriers pitching staff just could not hold the hot hitting Steam. The Steam had a total of fifteen hits on the day while the Terriers had a total of eight hits on the day. The Steam scored their first four runs in the second inning. Zach Hurley led off the inning with a walk a would be followed by four consecutive singles, scoring three runs. The number nine batter, Billy O'Conner would then lay down a sacrifice bunt moving two Steam runners into scoring position. Three pitches later, Tommy Nurre would score from third base on a wild pitch. The Steam scored again in the fourth inning, getting two run on three singles, a hits batsman and two Terrier errors. Both Steam runs were unearned but increased the Steam lead to six runs. The Terriers mounted a small comeback in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring two runs. The Terriers led of the inning with back to back singles from Jason Patton (Kent State University) and Ollie Enos (College of Wooster). The next batter, pinch hitter Vince Chiera (University of Akron), would double to the right center field gap, allowing Patton to score and Enos to move up to second base. Cory Hindel (Wake Forest University) would come up next for the Terriers and hit a hard ground ball up the middle, allowing Enos to score but being thrown out on the play. The inning and rally would end a batter later on a double play fly out, throw out at home. The Steam would get back the two runs the Terriers manufactured in the fourth inning with one swing of the bat. With a runner already reaching base on a single, Steam first baseman, Tommy Nure would blast a two run home run over the left field wall. The Steam would get two more runs in the inning off two doubles and a walk. In the sixth, the Terriers scored another run when Vince Chiera (University of Akron) reached base on a walk. Cory Hindel (Wake Forest University) would then reach base on a two out infield single. Mark Schoeck (Valparaiso University) would then score Chiera (University of Akron) on a double that went to the wall in left center field. The Terriers fall to 11-13 on the season and look to take game two of Saturday's doubleheader to split the season series with the Steam.
