North Canton, Ohio – After falling to the Cincinnati Steam in game one of Saturday's Family Day doubleheader, the Stark County Terriers answered back in game two with stellar pitching, timely hitting and good defense to defeat the Steam 4-2, ending their three game losing streak and splitting the season series with the Steam. The Terriers struck first in game two, scoring two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Kevin Johnson (University of Cincinnati) reached base on an error by the second baseman with one out in the inning. The next batter, Cory Hindel (Wake Forest University) would single. Brandon White (Kent State University) reached base on a walk, loading the bases for Tyler Maag (Southern Arkansas University). Maag would deliver a one out single to left field, scoring both Johnson (University of Cincinnati) and Hindel (Wake Forest University) and giving the Terriers an early two run lead. Chris Niro (Miami of Ohio) led off the inning by getting hit by a pitch and moved up to second on a semi-successful hit and run by Kevin Johnson (University of Cincinnati) who was retired on the play but moved Niro (Miami of Ohio) into scoring position. Niro (Miami of Ohio) would then score on Cory Hindel's (Wake Forest University) double to the wall in left center field giving the Terriers a three run lead. The Steam mounted a comeback in the sixth inning as they scored two runs off of three singles and a walk. The Terriers answered back in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring a big insurance run. Jason Patton (Kent State University) led off the inning with a infield single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Chris Niro (Miami of Ohio). The next batter, Kevin Johnson (University of Cincinnati) singled to right field scoring Niro (Miami of Ohio) and giving the Terriers a two run cushion for the seventh. In the seventh inning, Kevin Johnson (University of Cincinnati) came on to pitch and retired the side in four batters, earning his first save of the season. Terriers staring pitcher Joel Ernst (Wake Forest University) improves to 1-0 on the season after pitching six innings, only allowing two runs on six hits, walking two and striking out six. The Terriers improve to 12-13 on the season and look to get back to five hundred as they take on the Xenia Athletes In Action, Sunday, June 8th in a 3:00 PM scheduled doubleheader at Walsh University.
