North Canton, Ohio – With the Stark County Terriers needing to get back to five hundred to stay in the Great Lakes League Playoff race, the Terriers brought out the hitting parade, getting ten hits in game one of Sunday's doubleheader against the Xenia Athletes In Action propelling them to a 4-1 victory. With the win, the Terriers get back to five hundred at 13-13. The Terriers struck first Sunday as they scored three runs in the third inning after threatening in both the first and second innings. With one out in the third, Kevin Johnson (University of Cincinnati) singled into right field and advanced to second on Jason Patton's (Kent State University) base on balls. The next batter, Terriers' second baseman Phil Bednar (University of Akron) doubled into left field, scoring Johnson (University of Cincinnati). Following Bednar would be the Terriers' designated hitter Dennis Vaughn (Bowling Green State University). Vaughn (Bowling Green State University) would single into left field, soring both Patton (Kent State University) and Bednar (University of Akron) giving the Terriers a three run lead. The Athletes In Action answered back in the top of the fourth inning with a run of their own. With two outs, Athletes shortstop Brian Kolb reached base on a Terrier error, extending the inning and eventually allowing the Athletes to score a unearned run on a bases loaded hit by pitch. The Terriers would get back their three run lead in the bottom of the fourth inning as the Terriers took advantage of a throwing error that allowed Brandon White (Kent State University) to reach base safely. White would reach second on the throwing error and move up to third on a wild pitch. Two batters later, Kevin Haas (University of Akron) would hit a hard ground ball up the middle, allowing White (Kent State University) to score and giving the Terriers a three run lead again. Terriers staring pitcher Jeff Cinadr (University of Toledo) pitched four solid innings, only allowing one unearned run on two hits while striking out four. Cinadr (University of Toledo) improves to 1-1 on the season. In relief for the Terriers was Cameron Betourne (Vanderbilt University) who would pitch three scoreless innings earning his first save of the year. . Members of the hit parade for the Terriers included Kevin Haas (University of Akron) with a single and a RBI; Blake Chaffee (Miami of Ohio) with a single; Kevin Johnson (University of Cincinnati) with two singles; Jason Patton (Kent State University) with a single; Phil Bednar (University of Akron) with a double and a RBI; Dennis Vaughn (Bowling Green State University) with two singles and two RBI's; Ollie Enos (College of Wooster) with a single; and Brandon White (Kent State University) also with a single. The Terriers look to take game two of Sunday's doubleheader and sweep the series against the Xenia Athletes In Action.
