The Copperheads started the scoring early, scoring one unearned run in the top of the first inning which was quickly answered by the Terriers with two runs of their own. Ross Yoder (Mount Vernon Nazarene University) led off the the bottom of the first with a double to the wall. It would not take Yoder long to score as the next batter, Terriers shortstop Kevin Haas (University of Akron) laced a single to the outfield, scoring Yoder (Mount Vernon Nazarene University). Chris Niro (Miami of Ohio) would follow Haas (University of Akron) with a single of his own, moving Haas (University of Akron) to third base. Two outs later, with the bases loaded, Blake Chaffee (Miami of Ohio) would lace a single, scoring Haas (University of Akron).
The Copperheads answered back in the second inning, scoring three runs on two singles, two doubles, and a walk. But just as fast as the Copperheads scored, the Terriers were scoring too. The Terriers scored three of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Cory Hindel (Wake Forest University) led off the bottom half of the second inning with a walk. After a strikeout and a ground out, Kevin Haas (University of Akron) would also walk. Following Haas (University of Akron) was Chris Niro (Miami of Ohio) who would lace a double to the gap, scoring both base runners. Jason Patton (Kent State University) would follow Niro (Miami of Ohio) with a single, scoring Niro (Miami of Ohio) and giving the Terriers the lead again.
The scoring continued for the Terriers in the third inning when Cory Hindel (Wake Forest University) blasted a home run over the left field porch, the Terriers first at home this year. After Hindel was Terriers center fielder Tyler Maag (Southern Arkansas University), who would double and score on two consecutive passed balls by the Copperheads catcher.
Over the next three innings, pitching finally set in and both the Terriers and Copperheads had zero's on the scoreboard. But in the seventh, the scoring continued as the Copperheads scored two runs on two consecutive hits and a fielders choice. The Terriers once again matched their run total in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two runs of their own. Kevin Johnson (University of Cincinnati) would lead off the inning with a double and would score a batter later as Blake Chaffee (Miami of Ohio) reached safely on a throwing error, allowing Johnson (University of Cincinnati) to score. Cory Hindel (Wake Forest University) would follow Johnson (University of Cincinnati) with a single. After a fielders choice and a intentional walk, Hindel would score on Kevin Haas' (University of Akron) ground out, giving the Terriers a three run lead going into the eighth inning.
Bu three runs would not prove to be enough as the Copperheads stomred back in the ninth inning, scoring three runs off of three separate Terriers pitchers on three walks, two hits and a throwing error. The Terriers would have a chance in the bottom of the ninth, but would leave the bases loaded forcing the game in to extra innings.
Once in extra innings, it did not take the Copperheads long to score as they scored two runs in the top of the tenth inning off of three consecutive singes and an error. In the bottom half of the tenth, the Terriers would have a chance to tie the game or even win it, but would once again leave the bases loaded and fall to the Copperheads 11-9.
The Terriers go to 15-14 on the season and travel to Celina, Ohio to take on the Grand Lake Marines in a doubleheader.
