Delaware, Ohio – In what would be one of the best games for the Stark County Terriers all season, the Terriers defeated the Delaware Cows 9-3 in an eleven inning must win game. With the Terriers on playoff life support, the entire team rallied in the eleventh inning, with the Terriers batting through the line up and scoring six runs. With the win, the Terriers improve to 16-18 and continue to have a heart beat in the playoff race. The Terriers struck first Wednesday scoring in the top of the third inning. The inning started with Brandon White (Kent State University) lacing a single over the head of the shortstop into the outfield. Two batters later, White (Kent State University) would advance to second after Ross Yoder (Mount Vernon Nazarene University) was hit by a pitch. Yoder (Mount Vernon Nazarene University) would be followed by Tyler Maag (Southern Arkansas University). Maag (Southern Arkansas University) would hit a high chopper that the third baseman could not handle, loading the bases for the Terriers number three hitter, Dennis Vaughn (Blowing Green State University). Vaughn (Bowling Green State University) would work the count to two/two but then get hit by a pitch, scoring White (Kent State University) and giving the Terriers a early one run lead. Unfortunately, the Terriers would leave the bases loaded, with the next two batter flying out to third first base and shortstop, respectively. The Cows would answer back with two of their own in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Cows led off the inning with a double, a single and an error that would score a run. The Cows would score another run on a two out single, taking the lead. But just as fast the Cows took the lead, the Terriers would get it right back. In the top of the fifth inning, the Terriers scored two runs when Kevin Haas (University of Akron), who had earlier walked, scored on Dennis Vaughn's (Bowling Green State University) one out double, advancing Ross Yoder (Mount Vernon Nazarene University), who also walked, to third base. Yoder (Mount Vernon Nazarene University) would score a batter later on Jason Patton's (Kent State University) sacrifice fly to right field, giving the Terries the lead back. After four innings of scoreless baseball, the Cows would score the tying run in the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs after two singles and two walks, forcing extra innings. The Terriers would strike in the eleventh inning, batting through the order and scoring six runs. Tyler Maag (Southern Arkansas University) lead off the inning with a walk. Dennis Vaughn (Bowling Green State University) would follow with another walk. The next batter, Jason Patton (Kent State University) would reach base safely on a infield single bunt, loading the bases for Phil Bednar (University of Akron). Bednar would hit a ground ball to the third baseman who would throw Maag (Southern Arkansas University) out at home but leave the bases loaded with one out for Blake Chaffee (Miami of Ohio). Chaffee (Miami of Ohio) would deliver with a line drive into left field, scoring Vaughn (Bowling Green State University) and leaving the bases loaded for the next Terrier, cathcer Cory Hindel (Wake Forest University). Hindel (Wake Forest University) would also deliver with a base hit to right field, scoring Patton (Kent State University). On the same play, Bednar (University of Akron) would be thrown out at home. The next Terriers batter, Brandon White (Kent State University) would walk, loading the bases for the number nine hitter Kevin Haas (University of Akron). Haas would work the count and draw a walk, scoring Chaffee (Miami of Ohio) and keeping the bases loaded for the Terriers lead off hitter Ross Yoder (Mount Vernon Nazarene). Yoder (Mount Vernon Nazarene University) would also walk, scoring Hindel (Wake Forest University) and keeping the bases loaded. The next batter, Tyler Maag (Southern Arkansas University), who led off the inning, would deliver a two run single to center field, scoring the Terriers sixth run of the inning. The next batter, Dennis Vaughn (Bowling Green State University) would also single, but the inning would end when Ross Yoder (Mount Vernon Nazarene) was thrown out at home trying to score. In the bottom half of the inning, Steve Davis (Kent State University) would come on for the Terriers and shut the door on the Cows, giving the Terriers a key win, and momentum going into another must win game against the Licking County Settlers, Saturday July 1st, at 1:00 PM.
