North Canton, Ohio – With the Stark County Terriers' backs against the wall, they would overcome five errors and take game two of Sunday's doubleheader against the Lake Erie Monarchs by a score of 5-4. The Terriers trailed for most of the game until the fifth inning when the Terriers scored two unearned runs after a catchers interference call. The Terriers would then take the lead in the sixth inning but lose it in the seventh after two errors in the inning. But the Terriers would answer in the bottom seventh, scoring the tying run and winning it in the bottom of the eighth. With the win, the Terriers go to 18-19 on the season and keep their playoff hopes alive. The Terriers will need to essentially win out and get some help from a few teams in the Great Lakes League. The Monarchs scored first in game two, scoring one run in the third inning and another run in the fourth. In the third, the Monarchs scored their run on a lead off walk and a RBI single. In the fourth, the Monarchs scored on a two out RBI double. The Terriers would answer back in the fifth inning, scoring two unearned runs after a catcher's interference call. Tyler Maag (Southern Arkansas University) led off the inning with a double to the wall in left field. After two quick Terrier outs, Ollie Enos (College of Wooster) came to bat and chopped a ball off the plate and was thrown out at first by the catcher. But the home plate umpire thought something was wrong and discussed with the field umpire. They concluded that Enos's (College of Wooster) bat had made contact with the catchers glove, allowing Enos (College of Wooster) to reach first safely and giving the Terriers new life. Two pitches after the catcher's interference, the Monarchs pitcher would throw a wild pitch, allowing Maag (Southern Arkansas University) to score and moving Enos (College of Wooster) into scoring position at second base. Ross Yoder (Mount Vernon Nazarene University) would then lace a single into the outfield, scoring Enos (College of Wooster) and keeping the inning alive. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Terriers would take the lead for the first time in game two. With one out in the inning, Dennis Vaughn (Bowling Green State University) would reach base on a throwing error by the second baseman. On the play. Vaughn (Bowling Green State University) would injure his leg and Rob Wendzicki (Eastern Michigan University) would come on to run for him. The next batter, Tyler Maag (Southern Arkansas University) would work a walk and put runners on first and second. Brandon White (Kent State University) would then hit a ball into the hole on the left side of the infield, singling and loading the bases for the Terriers shortstop Phil Bednar (University of Akron). Bednar (University of Akron) would deliver with a high chopped ground ball to the shortstop, preventing the double play and allowing Wendzicki (Eastern Michigan University) to score. Steve Davis (Kent State University) would come on for his second inning of relief in the seventh, but would fail to hold the lead, giving up an two unearned runs. Davis (Kent State University) would strike out the first batter of the inning, but with a throwing error by the catcher, he would reach base safely and score four batters later on a bases loaded sacrifice fly. A batter later, the Monarchs would score another run on a bloop single over the head of Blake Chaffee (Miami of Ohio), taking a one run lead into the bottom of the seventh inning. In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Terriers would fight back and tie the game on Chirs Niro's (Miami of Ohio) RBI single, scoring Blake Chaffee (Miami of Ohio) who singles and stole second two batters prior. In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Terriers would keep their playoff hopes alive on a single off the bat of Phil Bednar (University of Akron), scoring Rob Wendzicki (Eastern Michigan University) who walked earlier in the inning.
